Cocktails and Sailing

In the wake of the NOOD, our August 10 cocktail fundraiser at The Rack drew a great crowd and was a huge success. The night was filled with pool, dancing, and prizes, and raised $2,200. A huge thanks to the organizers, Robin Moss and Karen Bonner.

Schedules have been very hectic leading up to the US Disabled Sailing Team’s qualifying race for the SKUD 18 in Newport this week. Over the past few weeks we have been juggling boat repairs with competition, practice, and rest. Owning one of the first boats off the production line is both a blessing and a curse; we are the select few who must pioneer the way through design flaws.

The Clagett will be the second event for the SKUD 18 and the top three placing US teams will join the US Disabled Sailing Team. Racing will be held on Saturday and Sunday along with several training days before hand with US Disabled Sailing coach, Betsy Alison.

The US Disabled Sailing Team is comprised of the three Paralympic classes: the 2.4 Metre for this single-person event, the SKUD 18 for the two-person event, and the Sonar for the three-person event. Several races a year are held to determine the team for the following year.

Since the SKUD 18 made a late entrance this year, the Clagett is the only US Disabled Sailing Team qualifying race that has been organized for this year.

Wish us luck!
