It's Still Cold in Newport
Last week, Maureen and I practiced in Newport, RI with Paralympic campaigners Sarah Skeels and Bob Jones. We were very fortunate to have the US Disabled Sailing Team coach, Betsy Alison, spend some time on the water with us both days.
Dan Tucker and my parents helped with boat transportation and dock assistance. It's not possible to run a campaign without the invaluable assistance that we receive both on and off the dock.
Much of the two days were spent practicing downwind with the spinnaker. Both days we focused on communication between one another. Flying a spinnaker, especially, is a coordinated effort involving swift actions which allowed us to drill one another on communicating what we needed the other person to do.
At this point, we continue to practice boat handling because as a new team we want to grow from a strong foundation.
