Preparing for the America's Regatta

Team Eagle is busy packing the boat up to be trailered down to Florida for the winter. We will be making four trips to Florida this winter for events in Miami and St. Petersburg. Our first event is the America's Regatta at the end of November.

Organizing the boat's trip to Florida for the winter has been a great logistical challenge. I would like to thank Diane and Chip Greene for delivering the boat to Jacksonville, Florida where our good friends and expats of Hingham, Tom and Sandy Knowlton will pick the boat up and finish its journey to St. Petersburg, Florida. Charlotte RV Storage has generously donated storage for our race boat for the winter.

The winter events are always difficult with personal and work schedules. Much of our preparation for these events is unrelated to sailing. We spend weeks before each event tying up loose ends in both our personal and work life so that we can concentrate and not be distracted on race day. A race can be lost before we even leave the dock if we have not taken the time to prepare.

In addition to preparedness, able-bodied support for these events is critical. We would like to thank Barbara Wilson for volunteering to help us both on and off the water in St. Petersburg during the America's Regatta.

Have a happy Thanksgiving.
